Growing up in the middle class in the Midwest, most of those I knew in their forties seemed to have it all together. They were married with kids, a house and a car they actually liked. People like me looked to them for advice, and they had enough life experience to give it. Their awkward teenage years were a distant memory. They knew what they wanted from life, and how to get it.
As time went on, however, I learned that no one has it all together. As it turns out, a mere four decades is not long enough for some of us to decide what we want to be when we grow up, much less to become all knowing. Additionally, any vehicle that stays running long enough to pay off is a car worth liking. If it can haul home that amazing vintage find from the garage sale, even better.
When reality defies perception, what’s a person to do?
